Our digestive system has a great role to play in our overall health and well-being. Be mindful of your digestive health and take the necessary measures to maintain it. The National Institutes of Health estimates around 60 to 70 million people are affected by all digestive diseases. Around 62 million Americans are diagnosed with a digestive disorder every year. Some common digestive problems include bloating, constipation, acid reflux, and diarrhoea. Ayurveda has several beneficial ways to deal with these digestive problems. Here are some effective Ayurvedic remedies to get relief from digestive problems.
1. Constipation
To get relief from constipation, Ayurveda suggests consuming a drink made of hot water, salt and ghee. This drink has beneficial ingredients such as salt, water and ghee which ease the digestion process and helps in curbing constipation. According to Ayurveda, ghee helps lubricate the inside of the intestines and salt removes bacteria. The anti-inflammatory effects of ghee ease constipation by softening the stool.
2. Bloating
Bloating is a condition in which your belly feels full and tight, often due to gas. Ayurveda suggests that anything taken with warm water can ease bloating. Chewing fennel seeds is thought to help aid digestion and prevent gas. Fennel seeds may help prevent or reduce gas in several ways, states Healthline.
3. Acid Reflux
The Mayo Clinic states that acid reflux occurs when the sphincter muscle at the lower end of your oesophagus relaxes at the wrong time, allowing stomach acid to back up into your oesophagus. This can cause heartburn and other signs and symptoms. Anything that increases saliva in the mouth can help balance the stomach’s acidity.
4. Diarrhoea
Diarrhoea is the frequent passing of loose, watery and unformed faeces. To treat diarrhoea, bottle gourd can have impressive benefits. You can consume curry or soup made with bottle gourd or eat it with rice. It has great amounts of fibre and water content, which makes it easy to digest.
