The elderly are no longer the only ones affected by hypertension. According to recent research, the younger generation is now bearing a share of the disease's burden. According to the National Family Health Survey Series Four, 18.1% of people over the age of 15 had hypertension in 2015–2016; in contrast, 21% of women and 24% of men in the same age group had hypertension.
To manage hypertension and high blood sugar levels, one must be vigilant and keep checking their levels. But the question arises, how to check blood sugar and blood pressure levels? Are there any dedicated body postures that provide the correct readings?
Dr. Sri Karan Uddesh Tanugula, Consultant General Physician, Yashoda Hospitals Hyderabad sheds light on the best body postures to examine your blood sugar and blood pressure levels.
According to Dr Tanugula suggests the best body position to check blood pressure. Ensure that you have not consumed any caffeine products, and have voided urine before following the below steps.

Best Body Position To Check Blood Pressure And Blood Sugar
1. Sit in a chair with your back straight and supported. Avoid crossing your legs and place your feet flat on the floor.
2. Rest your arm on a table or flat surface at heart level. Make sure your upper arm is bare or covered by thin clothing.
3. Relax for about 5 minutes before taking the measurement. Avoid talking, moving, or any physical activity during this time.
4. Place the blood pressure cuff on your upper arm, ensuring it is snug but not too tight. The cuff should be placed directly above the bend of your elbow.
5. Remain still and silent while the measurement is being taken to ensure an accurate reading.
Consistently following these steps will help ensure accurate and reliable blood pressure readings. While Dr Tanugula said that there is no specific best position for measuring blood glucose levels.
According to Dr Tushar Tayal, Lead Consultant, Department of Internal Medicine, CK Birla Hospital, Gurugram, while monitoring BP, sit in a comfortable chair with your back supported for at least 5 minutes. Put both feet flat on the ground and keep your legs uncrossed. Rest your arm with the cuff on a table at chest height. Make sure the blood pressure cuff is snug but not too tight. Do not smoke, drink caffeinated beverages or exercise within 30 minutes before measuring your blood pressure.
