Benefits Of One Hour Of Exercise Daily: When it comes to losing weight quickly, a major question that usually strikes our mind is how much time should we spend exercising to achieve our weight loss goals. While it depends on an individual’s body and goals, experts suggest practising at least one hour of physical activity every day to get rid of stubborn belly fat.

In a conversation with Jagran English, Dr Tushar Tayal, Lead Consultant, Department of Internal Medicine, CK Birla Hospital, Gurugram explained how one hour of exercise every day can be a boon to your overall physical and mental health.

Ideal Time To Exercise Everyday

According to Dr Tayal, obesity or being overweight is associated with a plethora of health problems such as diabetes, heart disease, hypertension, cancer, and arthritis to name a few. A sedentary lifestyle and unhealthy eating habits are the primary causes of obesity. Other factors adding to diseases are environmental pollutants, pollution and pesticides, which are directly under our control and require long-term environmental planning and policies.

The thing which we can manage is our lifestyle which should include exercise and healthy eating habits. Keeping our body weight in target range is of utmost importance and WHO recommends 45-60 min of daily exercise for all individuals. Dr Tayal says that all overweight individuals should target a weight loss of 2 kg per month which is a healthy weight loss goal.

Dr Tayal further explained that losing 1 kg of weight requires a deficit of 8000 kcal which amounts to a calorie deficit of 500 KCAL per day which can be achieved with aerobic exercise and dietary restrictions. Running, brisk walking, cycling, swimming, and Zumba are some forms of exercises, which, if done for 45 min per day will help a person achieve a weight loss of 2 kg per month. Walking 12000-15000 steps per day is another way of losing calories. Additionally, stretching and muscle-building exercises may benefit in weight loss as well as maintaining flexibility.
