Commenting on this, Dr. Sri Karan Uddesh Tanugula, Consultant General Physician, Yashoda Hospitals Hyderabad explained that drinking buttermilk on an empty stomach every day can offer numerous benefits, but it's essential to weigh these against potential drawbacks. It has been consumed for centuries and is particularly popular during the summer months due to its refreshing nature. Here's a detailed examination of the pros and cons based on scientific evidence.

Hydration: Buttermilk is an excellent source of hydration, especially in hot climates. Its high water content helps replenish fluids lost through sweat, aiding in maintaining optimal hydration levels.
Probiotics: As a fermented dairy product, buttermilk contains beneficial bacteria such as Lactobacillus acidophilus and Lactobacillus casei. These probiotics promote a healthy gut microbiome, aiding digestion and potentially enhancing immune function.
