ROMANTIC relationships comprise as one of the most important and beautiful phases of our lives. Being in a relationship with someone you love and adore is simply one of the best things. Equal efforts, compromises, care and love, form the basic foundation of any relationship. However, sometimes even after putting in so much effort, the relationship does not work. There can be several reasons for a relationship to fail, but one common reason is ignoring the red flags.

What Is Red Flag In A Relationship?

Red flags in relationships are warning signs of unhealthy behaviour or patterns between you and your partner. Red flags are behaviours that force you to think about the worth of your relationship.

Why Do We Tend To Ignore Red Flags?

There can be several ways why an individual, especially women, ignore the red flags in their relationships. From being emotionally attached to a lack of awareness, explore the common reasons why you may be ignoring the red flags in your relationship. According to a study conducted by University College London, when in love, the human brain reacts differently to the negative characteristics of a person. It decreases our social judgment capacity and makes us focus only on the positive attributes of a person. The research suggests that both romantic and maternal love can make us blind emotionally and lower the chance of assessing someone critically.

Reasons Why People Ignore Red Flags In Relationship

1. Attachment Styles

Attachment styles are categorised as the types of behaviour exhibited by a person within a relationship, especially when that relationship is under some kind of threat. There are four types of attachment styles which include secure, anxious, avoidant and fearful attachment. People fear attachment and cling to their partners because of their attachment style, resulting in ignoring the red flags.

2. Post Trauma

Sometimes, an individual may have gone through a lot of things in their past relationships which they may feel guilty about. According to various experts, people usually tend to ignore red flags as they might have normalised dysfunctional behaviour and may not recognize warning signs as a result.

3. Loneliness

This is one of the most common reasons why people ignore red flags that they can see. Loneliness is a big threat to every individual on this Earth and in order to remain safe from it, we try to stick to people even after knowing that they might not be good for us. To avoid being single and experiencing feelings of loneliness, people decide to remain in the relationship and compromise.

4. Low Self Worth

Self-worth is an internal sense of being good enough and worthy of love and belonging from others. Generally, people who have low self-esteem or self-worth usually think that they do not deserve better. It can be possible that they might have faced worse situations in the past so they compare their present and past situations and feel that at least the present is much better than the past, and decide to ignore the red flags.

5. Hope

Hope is a feeling of expectation or desire from someone or something. We all tend to hope in our romantic relationships. Many people hope that their partner may become better in the future and that the red flags may turn into green flags sooner or later in the future. With this hope, the majority of us ignore the red flags.
