Is your skin feeling parched and flaky this winter? Cold air and low humidity can worsen skin conditions, leading to a range of issues. To keep your skin glowing and hydrated all season long, follow these skincare tips tailored for winter. As the season changes, so does your skin, and the transition into winter often invites various skin problems. Environmental factors such as a sudden drop in temperature and humidity can significantly impact your skin's appearance and health.
Colder weather tends to make skin dry and flaky, increasing sensitivity. Many people experience worsening skin conditions such as eczema, psoriasis, and rosacea during winter. Additionally, reduced sunlight exposure can lead to vitamin D deficiency, further affecting skin health. That’s why it’s essential to adopt a winter skincare routine to maintain soft and healthy skin. In a conversation with Jagran English, Dr. Rinky Kapoor, Consultant Dermatologist, Cosmetic Dermatologist, and Dermato-Surgeon at The Esthetic Clinics, shared some essential winter skincare tips, especially for men. Here are her recommendations:
Winter Skincare Tips
1. Stay Hydrated From Within
Healthy and glowing skin begins with hydration. Drink plenty of water to keep your skin hydrated from within. Incorporate water-rich fruits like watermelon into your diet. Additionally, consume warm beverages like broths, stews, soups, and herbal teas. These not only keep you hydrated but also provide warmth during colder months.
2. Avoid Extremely Hot Showers
While hot, steamy showers are tempting during winter, prolonged exposure to hot water can strip the skin of its natural oils, leaving it dry and rough. Instead of using excessively hot or cold water, opt for warm water, which provides the necessary warmth without irritating your skin.
3. Moisturise Your Skin
Skipping moisturizers in winter is a big mistake. As the temperature drops, it’s crucial to keep your skin moisturized. Winter often causes the skin to become dry, rough, and flaky. To combat this, generously apply moisturizer to your face, neck, arms, elbows, palms, and legs. Switch to a rich, hydrating moisturizer containing ingredients like hyaluronic acid, glycerin, shea butter, and ceramides. These components deliver intense hydration and strengthen the skin barrier.
4. Don’t Forget Your SPF
It’s a common misconception that sunscreen is only necessary during summer or on bright, sunny days. Sunscreen should be applied daily, even during overcast winter days. Opt for a broad-spectrum sunscreen with SPF 50 for optimal UV protection. Reapply sunscreen every 2 to 3 hours for the best results.
At last, Dr. Rinky Kapoor emphasizes that a proper skincare routine is essential to protect your skin during winter. By following these simple yet effective tips, you can keep your skin healthy, hydrated, and glowing all season long.
