Maintaining liver health is crucial for overall well-being. The liver plays a vital role in filtering toxins, regulating metabolism and storing essential nutrients. A healthy liver helps detoxify the body, supports energy production and prevents diseases like fatty liver and cirrhosis. However, factors like excessive alcohol consumption, poor diet and certain medications can damage liver cells, leading to inflammation and scarring. Thus, for liver disease, one must know the early warning signs which may suggest that your liver is not in perfect health.

In a conversation with Jagran English, Dr. Kaushal Madan, Principal Director & Head, Clinical Hepatology, Max Hospital, Saket listed the warning signs that may indicate any potential liver disease.

Warning Signs Of Liver Disease

Development of yellow eyes or dark coloured urine which may suggest an early stage of jaundice or a jaundice which has just started to develop. In addition, other features may be fatigued in which the patient feels severely weak. 

Patient has severe itching all over the body or the presence of clay-coloured stools. Normally your stools are dark yellow or brown coloured when they become light coloured or pale that is called clay-coloured stools which may suggest an early liver disease in addition to other.

Swelling of the feet and swelling of the abdomen may also represent extra fluid in the body and extra fluid in the abdominal cavity.

Many patients may also present with loss of appetite and indigestion but please remember all these signs in liver disease.

If the patient has high risk of developing liver disease, they should be screened for the presence of liver disease by getting their liver function test done and a fibro scan done.
