Durga Puja 2023: Sindur Khela is a beloved ritual during Durga Puja, a colorful and symbolic festival on the last day of the nine-day Navratri festival. All the married women come to this festival dressed elegantly in traditional garb. They rub sindur, or vermilion, on each other as well as the goddess's idol, her face, and her feet.

Durga Puja 2023 Histoy And Significance

Sindur Khela is an outstanding illustration of the traditions and customs that give Bengali culture its depth. On the last day of the celebration, Durga Puja is celebrated in part with Sindur Khela. On this day, married ladies get together to play with vermilion, also known as sindur, and to apply it to each other and the goddess's idol.

Sindur Khela stands for sisterhood, matrimonial ties, and the appreciation of womanhood. In addition to capturing the lovely spirit of married life, Sindur Khela also represents female solidarity and camaraderie. This custom is well ingrained in Bengali society and has a strong emotional and cultural resonance. Goddess Durga, together with her kids Lord Ganesha, Kartikeya, goddess Saraswati, and Laxmi, is reported to have spent four days with her parents, mother Menoka and father Giriraj, and enjoyed a variety of bhogs during this period.

When the goddess is ready to return to Lord Shiva's residence on Dashmi, the devotees make sure to bid her a fond farewell by applying sindur on her feet and forehead as well as by giving her betel leaves and sweets. In West Bengal and Bangladesh, Sindur Khela is a 400-year-old custom that is a crucial component of the Vijayadashmi celebrations. The custom encourages female friendship and conveys joy.

By drawing a piece of betel leaf on their palms and pressing it to the deity's face, Durga worshipers bid the goddess farewell during the ritual known as Devi Boron. They receive bangles, candy, and sindoor applied to their foreheads. Married women pray for a successful marriage after the rite by applying the auspicious sindoor to each other's faces.
