Staying healthy doesn’t always require major lifestyle changes. Small daily habits can make a significant difference in your overall well-being. Here are some simple, doctor-recommended practices. Making these habits a part of your daily routine can lead to a healthier and happier life. Start small, stay consistent, and feel the difference! In a conversation with Jagran English, Dr. Pawan Kumar Goyal, Senior Director – Internal Medicine, Fortis Hospital, Shalimar Bagh, shared his insights on Simple Daily Habits for a Healthier Life.

1. Stay Hydrated

Water is essential for digestion, circulation, and detoxification. Aim for 8–10 glasses daily. Start your morning with a glass of warm water to boost metabolism.

2. Eat Mindfully

A balanced diet rich in fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and lean proteins keeps your body strong. Avoid processed foods, excessive sugar, and late-night snacking. Eating slowly and chewing thoroughly aids digestion.

3. Get Enough Sleep

Quality sleep (7–9 hours) helps repair the body and supports brain function. Avoid screens before bedtime, maintain a regular sleep schedule, and create a relaxing nighttime routine.

4. Move More

Daily physical activity, even in small amounts, keeps your heart healthy and muscles strong. A brisk 30-minute walk, stretching, or simple home exercises can prevent stiffness and fatigue.

5. Maintain Good Posture

Sitting for long hours? Keep your back straight, shoulders relaxed, and feet flat on the ground. Proper posture helps reduce neck and back pain.

6. Practice Deep Breathing

Taking a few deep breaths daily helps reduce stress and improves oxygen flow. Try inhaling deeply through your nose, holding for a few seconds, and exhaling slowly.

7. Prioritise Mental Well-Being

Stress affects physical health. Take breaks, practice gratitude, and engage in activities that bring you joy. Talking to loved ones or meditating can support emotional health.

8. Maintain Hand Hygiene

Washing your hands regularly with soap helps prevent infections. Carry a sanitiser when you’re outdoors.

9. Limit Screen Time

Excessive use of mobile phones or computers strains the eyes and affects sleep. Follow the 20-20-20 rule—every 20 minutes, look at something 20 feet away for 20 seconds.

10. Regular Health Check-ups

Prevention is better than cure. Regular doctor visits help detect health issues early.
