Eid-ul-Fitr 2025 Date In India: Eid-ul-Fitr, a joyous festival of Muslims marks the end of Ramadan, the holy month of fasting. Falling on the first day of Shawwal, the tenth month of the Islamic calendar, its exact date is determined by the crescent moon's sighting. This festive day is a time for spiritual renewal, family reunions and community bonding. Muslims from all over the world celebrate with grand feasts, new clothes, warm greetings and generous giving.
Traditional dishes, particularly Seviyan, a sweet delicacy are prepared, earning Eid-ul-Fitr the nickname 'Meethi Eid'. On this day, Muslims are obligated to perform 'Zakat' before offering Eid prayers, emphasising the importance of charity and compassion.
When Eid-ul-Fitr is in India- March 31 or April 1?
Ramadan, a 29-30 day fasting period began in India on March 2, 2025. So, this year, India with other South Asian countries like Pakistan, Bangladesh and others will see the crescent moon on March 30, 2025, to mark the end of Ramadan. If the moon is spotted after maghrib prayers, Eid-ul-Fitr will be celebrated on March 31. However, if the crescent is not visible, Ramadan will complete 30 days and Eid will be observed on April 1, 2025. Notably, India typically celebrates Eid a day after Saudi Arabia, following the traditional moon-sighting method to determine the start and end of Ramadan.

Eid-ul-Fitr 2025: Moon Sighting Date In Saudi Arabia
In Saudi Arabia, Ramadan commenced on March 1 so, the moon sighting committee will begin observing the crescent on March 29. If spotted, Eid-ul-Fitr will be celebrated on March 30; otherwise, it will fall on March 31. Meanwhile, in the UAE, the government has announced public sector holiday dates. If Ramadan concludes on its 30th day, the holiday will extend to April 2, providing a longer break for citizens and residents to celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr with family and friends.
