How To Make Kada Prashad At Home: Gurupurab is one of the most treasured festivals in Sikhism and commemorates the birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev Ji. Guru Nanak's teachings on equality, selfless service and love for all are reflected on this day. It is a time for Sikhs to come together in communities, pray at Gurdwaras and do almsgiving.

Making Kada Prashad in the Gurdwara kitchens is one of the most treasured rituals of this day. Kada Prashad is a delectable delicacy made with flour, ghee, sugar and water and represents Guru Nanak's message of equality. Making Kada Prashad at home is a significant way to commemorate this sacred occasion. Here are five simple steps in which you can prepare Gurudwara-style Kada Prashad at your home and enjoy it with your family and friends.

Easy Recipes For Kada Prashad

Ingredients: 1 cup whole wheat flour (atta), 1/2 cup ghee (clarified butter), 1 cup sugar, 1 1/2 cups water, a pinch of cardamom powder (optional), few strands of saffron (optional), nuts (optional)

Step 1: In a large heavy-bottomed pan, heat 1/2 cup of ghee over medium heat. Since the ghee will serve as the foundation for your prashad, it should melt without smoking. For optimal flavour, you can use premium ghee.

Step 2: Add 1 cup of whole wheat flour to the pan after the ghee has melted. With steady stirring, start roasting the flour in the ghee over medium-low heat. Cooking the flour until it is deeply golden brown and smells nutty is the aim. To keep the flour from burning or sticking to the pan, be sure to whisk constantly.

Step 3: When the flour is golden brown from roasting, gradually pour in 1 1/2 cups of water, stirring gently as you do so. To smooth out any lumps, keep swirling the liquid as it will bubble and sizzle. After all of the water has been added, stir in 1 cup of sugar and stir until it dissolves. The mixture should start to thicken and take on the consistency of custard.

Step 4: You can now add saffron strands for colour and scent and a pinch of cardamom powder for fragrance. After giving everything a good stir, lower the heat and simmer for five to ten minutes. To make sure prashad doesn't stick to the pan, keep stirring in between. As it cooks, the prashad should get smoother and thicker until it has the consistency of a soft halwa.

Step 5: Take the pan off of the hob as soon as the prashad reaches the appropriate thickness. Now you can add almonds, pistachios or any other nut to garnish Kada Prashad, but it is not required. Kada Prashad is traditionally served without garnish.
