New Delhi | Jagran Lifestyle Desk: The 'festival of colours' Holi has finally arrived. Today, people around the country celebrate Holika Dahan and Choti Holi. The festival is celebrated by lighting a bonfire and burning an effigy of Holika, which signifies the victory of good over evil. As per religious beliefs, Holika tried to kill her nephew on order of her brother Hiranyukashipu on this day but failed as Prahlad was an ardent devotee of Lord Vishnu. Holika failed to kill Prahlad and died.
To celebrate the day and seek blessings from the Lord, people celebrate Holika Dahan or Choti Holi. They sing, dance and perform parikarma (take rounds around bonfire). On the next day people play Holi with gulal, the festival of colours.
