New Delhi | Jagran Lifestyle Desk: Gudi Padwa or Ugadi is an annual festival celebrated on the first day of Chaitra to commemorate the arrival of the spring season. It is also observed as the Marathi New Year in some places. During this festival, people wake up early and begin the day with an oil bath, observe fast, decorate their home with garlands and then hold prayers. It is believed that hoisting the Gudi flag on the main door brings wealth and fortune.
The festival is predominantly celebrated in Maharashtra and Goa. In south India, people celebrate the day by performing harvest. As per mythology text, Lord Brahma created the universe on Gudi Padwa and thus it is considered one of the most auspicious days of the year.
