Janmashtami, also known as Krishna Janmashtami or Gokulashtami, is celebrated widely across the country and mouth-watering delicacies are prepared and served as a bhog to the deity. One such bhog item is Panjiri, which is considered Lord Krishna’s favourite food. This is a traditional prasad that is offered to Lord Krishna, especially on Janmashtami. Panjiri is cooked in temples and households and is known for its simple recipe and health-boosting ingredients. Interestingly, the homemade panjiri recipe is made with kitchen staples that are filled with nourishing goodness and spiritual significance, making it a wonderful treat for children and adults alike for celebrating Janmashtami 2025.
What Is Panjiri?
Panjiri is a popular North Indian delicacy that is prepared during Janmashtami as a sweet prasad. This dry-sweet recipe looks like a dry mixture and is prepared with gluten-free coriander powder. Although it may seem bizarre, coriander seeds are used to prepare this dry sweet prasad. Panjiri is made with several other everyday kitchen ingredients like dry fruits, coconut, melon seeds and super delicious and nutritious makhana. All the ingredients enhance the taste of the dish, which is considered the Mahaprasad of Lord Krishna in some parts of the country and is offered in the Chappan bhog at some places. Here’s the Panjiri recipe that can be made in just 5 minutes for Janmashtami 2025.

How To Make Dhaniya Panjiri This Janmashtami?
Ingredients
1 ½ cups ground coriander seeds
1 cup desiccated coconut
¼ cup raisins
3 teaspoons melon seeds
5 tablespoons ghee
½ cup powdered sugar
1 cup makhana
¼ cup almonds
1 teaspoon powdered green cardamom
Method
Step 1: Take a pan and add ghee. Once the ghee is hot, dry roast 1 cup of makhana and transfer it to the plate.
Step 2: In the same pan, add some ghee and dry roast the nuts and keep them aside.
Step 3: Next, dry roast 1 cup of desiccated coconut and toss it nicely in the same pan and shift it to the plate.
Step 4: In the same pan, cook the coriander powder for 10-12 minutes over a low flame. Keep stirring till the coriander powder turns brown and aromatic. Turn off the flame and transfer it to a bowl.

Step 5: Take a grinder and grind coconut, makhana and coriander powder into a smooth, coarse mixture.
Step 6: Transfer the mixture into a bowl and mix with dry fruits and nuts, seeds and powdered sugar. Add tulsi leaves and serve as a bhog to Lord Krishna on this Janmashtami.

Tips To Make Panjiri Recipe In 5 Minutes
If you are running short on time to make this sweet dessert, ghee roast the makhanas, nuts and seeds together and keep them aside. Then, cook the coriander powder and mix it all together and cook till the colour turns brown. Grind them together and serve as a Janmashtami prasad.
