MAHA SHIVRATRI is one of the most significant and priminent Hindu festivals, widely celebrated across the country. This festival worships Lord Shiva and devotees seek his blessings for health, wealth and strength. It is celebrated every year on the Chaturdashi Tithi of the waxing phase of the Lunar cycle in Phalguna monthas per Magha calendar. This year, Maha Shivratri is being celebrated on February 18 with great devotion and dedication. There are numerous legends behind the celebrations of this auspicious festival, however, some popular reasons inlcude the divine union of Lord Shiva and Mata Parvati and this day also marks the first time when Lord Shiva performed Tandava, a cosmic dance which symbolises the cycle of creation and destruction.
