New Delhi | Jagran Lifestyle Desk: Ram Navami is an annual spring festival to celebrate the birth of Lord Ram-- seventh avatar of God Vishnu. The festival celebrates the descent of Vishnu as Ram avatar via his birth to Ayodhya king Dasrath and queen Kausalya. The festival is part of Chaitra Navratri and falls on Mahanavami or Shukla paksha of Chaitra month. As per the Gregorian calendar, it usually lies during March or April.
On this day, devotees invite nine girls and serve them halwa and puri. Some people even come out of their homes and play with sticks amid huge enthusiasm and fanfare. The festival is predominantly celebrated in Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Tamil Nadu, Chhattisgarh, and Madhya Pradesh. This year it will be celebrated on April 2 (Thursday).
