How Overthinking Affects Mental Health: We either frequently witness or encounter overthinking in our day-to-day existence. Our pals tell us that they spend the entire evening overanalyzing everything. An unending cycle of anxieties and ideas is sometimes referred to as overthinking. You frequently get scared and overwhelmed as a result of it. It causes you to reflect on the past, consider unchangeable circumstances, or ponder about things. When you overthink, you tend to indulge in the worst possible scenarios of a particular situation. Overthinking engages you in a whirlpool of negative thoughts that make you feel stressed or anxious.
It may be harmful to our general health and well-being to second-guess our choices, dwell on the worst-case scenarios, and consider how things could have turned out differently. Numerous studies indicate a connection between post-traumatic stress disorder, anxiety, depression and overthinking.

Overthinking may show up as a variety of symptoms, such as difficulty focusing on anything else, difficulty relaxing, persistent concern, elevated anxiety, mental exhaustion, a lot of doubts, second-guessing decisions, and contemplating the worst-case scenarios of a situation. In a conversation with Jagran English, Dr Shambhavi Jaiman, Consultant Psychiatrist, Department of Mental Health and Behavioural Sciences, Fortis Healthcare explained how overthinking affects mental health.

Dr Jaiman said that overthinking can have a significant impact on mental health by leading to increased stress, anxiety, and even depression. It can also impair decision-making and problem-solving abilities, disrupt sleep patterns, and negatively affect relationships. To avoid overthinking, try these tips:

Tips To Avoid Overthinking
Practice mindfulness: Focus on the present moment and observe your thoughts without judgment.
Challenge negative thoughts: Question the validity of your worries and replace them with more realistic and positive perspectives.
Engage in relaxation techniques: Practise deep breathing, meditation, or progressive muscle relaxation to reduce stress and promote mental clarity.

Stay active: Physical activity can help alleviate stress and clear your mind.
