DIY Kajal At Home: Kajal, also known as kohl, is a makeup essential that has been used for centuries. Kajal not only enhances the natural beauty of the eyes but also protects them from environmental stressors. Although there are commercialised kajals available in the market, they contain harsh chemicals like lead, parabens and artificial colours that can cause damage to the eyes. However, there is no need to worry anymore! You can easily make DIY kajal at home with the help of only two ingredients, that is, almond and ghee. These ingredients are nourishing, and they double as an eye care treatment. Almond and ghee DIY kajal is 100 per cent natural and offers a rich, smoky look to the eyes.
Almonds For Eye Health
Almonds are packed with vitamin E, which is a powerful antioxidants that protect the eyes from oxidative stress. Vitamin E is believed to prevent eyes from cataracts and age-related macular degeneration (AMD). When used in kajal, the oils released from burnt almonds may protect and nourish the delicate skin around the eyes.
Ghee For Eye Health
Ghee has been considered a staple in Ayurveda for eye care for centuries. As per the study published in Ayurveda and Integrative Medicine (2020), ghee is used in Tarpana, an Ayurvedic treatment for improving vision and reducing eye fatigue. Also known as clarified butter, ghee is known to lubricate and relax the eyes, making it an excellent base for kajal.
DIY Homemade Kajal With Almonds And Ghee
Ingredients
1 almond
1 teaspoon of pure ghee
A small plate or diya (lamp)
A metal spoon or an earthen lamp
A clean cotton cloth or an earbud
A steel box or small container to store the kajal
Method
Take an almond and place it on a spoon and use a thin mental wire to hold it.
Light a candle and hold the almond close to the flame without burning it directly.
Allow the almond to roast until it turns black and releases oil. This oil-rich black residue will be used as the base for the kajal.

Collecting The Soot
Place a clean plate or an earthen lamp above the almond to collect the shoot.
After enough soot has been gathered, scrape it off gently with a spoon or knife.
Mixing With Ghee
Add a few drops of pure ghee to the soot and mix well until it forms a smooth, creamy paste. The ghee helps bind the soot and add a cooling effect.
Storing The Kajal
Transfer the DIY homemade kajal into a small airtight container. You can apply the kajal using a clean fingertip, an earbud or a small brush.
