Tips To Reduce Screen Fatigue: In today’s world, people find it difficult to avoid screens. They either work on their laptops, scroll through their phones or binge-watch their favourite series on TV. Extended screen time has become a part of everyday life, which can eventually cause a common issue called screen fatigue. This is a modern discomfort that has led to eye strain, headaches, blurred vision and mental exhaustion. However, with effective and proven ways, people can significantly reduce their screen fatigue and protect their eye health.
What Is Screen Fatigue?
Screen fatigue, also known as computer vision syndrome, has become a common problem in the tech industry. This syndrome occurs when the muscles in and around the eye become worn out and strained from prolonged screen use. Screen fatigue can also affect those who wear glasses and contacts and those who don’t. There are several causes of screen fatigue, namely screen glare, bad lighting, bad posture, uncorrected vision problems and a poor ergonomic setup.
Effective Tips To Reduce Screen Fatigue
Follow 20-20-20 Rule
The 20-20-20 rule means that for every 20 minutes people stare at the screen, take a 20-second break and look at something about 20 feet away. This eye exercise helps relax the muscles long enough for people to recover and focus.
Change Desk Setup
Some people find that using a larger computer monitor helps reduce eye fatigue. Besides, you can also increase the font size on the laptop, monitor or phone. If you don’t have that option, definitely switch the reading mode on and increase the font size.
Soothe Eye Muscles
After work, it is important to indulge in some eye exercises to stretch those tired muscles. Close your eyes and try to rotate the eyeballs slowly, five times clockwise and five times anti-clockwise. Another exercise is to focus on something near for 20 seconds and something far for 20 seconds. Lastly, blink 10-15 times continuously and close your eyes for 10-15 seconds.

Extracurricular Optics
Often people, after completing their work on computers or laptops, indulge in reading or scrolling through their phone screens. This can further increase the screen fatigue. Switch to television, if you have to see streaming shows instead of watching on tablets or mobiles. This helps relieve eye strain. It is important to spend at least 20 minutes outdoors and look at the greens to relax the eye muscles.
A Sound Sleep
It is important to give rest to the eyes and brain, thus, turning off screens for one to two hours before sleeping is important. Set devices to “dark mode” in the evening to reduce the impact of bright light. If you’re used to streaming videos a night, try listening to an audiobook or podcast instead.
