Exams can make students feel stressed and anxious and all for the right reasons. Entering into the middle of February, schools and other educational institutions are conducting exams in full swing. Everywhere students are preparing for the exams to perform their best. Sometimes, preparing for exams can be a little overwhelming which can lead to stress and anxiety. It is important for students to stay focused and manage stress effectively.
Final season exams can be extremely stressful for students. Many students push themselves hard enough, to study for hours without any breaks experiencing stress and anxiety. However, it is important to control emotions and be successful during the exam. Several relaxation strategies can be included in the study plan to prepare more efficiently and remain stress-free. Here is a list of six strategies that can be incorporated to manage exam stress and anxiety.
Strategies To Remain Stress-Free During Exams
Study Effectively
It is important to effectively manage the study in an effective manner. Before starting to study, break the study materials into smaller, manageable sections. Allot specific time slots for each subject. This will help speed up the learning process and absorb information more effectively.
Take Breaks In-Between
Make sure to take sufficient breaks while studying. It should ideally be for an hour. Do not invest in screen time on phone or laptop. Rather, take a long walk, stretch, or listen to music.
Relaxation Technique
Practise some breathing exercises when feeling stressed and anxious while preparing for exams or during exams. Breathing exercises help calm the nerves, making the student feel relaxed. Techniques like meditation can also help bring a relaxed mindset.
Eat Properly
To pace through the stress and anxiety during the exam it is important to feed the body with nutrients it needs from food. The food that students intake affects how they feel both emotionally and physically. Incorporate into food that helps sustain energy levels. Avoid sugary drinks or processed foods which can make students feel heavy or sluggish.
Sleep Well
It is essential for students to sleep sufficiently while preparing for exams. Making a habit of sleeping seven to eight hours of good night sleep helps them to remember what they learned and perform well in the exam feeling less stressed. Getting enough sleep, especially on the days before exams is important.
Talk To Someone
If any student is struggling to cope with stress during the exam, talk to someone who they trust. Be it a parent, friend, teacher, or counsellor, sometimes talking can make things feel better and the person can guide by putting things into perspective.
