Loneliness is closely linked to feelings of depression, helplessness and isolation. Today, many factors contribute to loneliness such as the fast pace of life, weakening support systems, broken family structures and people moving for education or work. Even though we have many online connections, these virtual interactions often lack depth and don't replace real-world connections which can make feelings of loneliness even worse. As social and emotional beings, we need genuine care, trust, understanding and support to maintain healthy relationships which in turn help with our mood and mental well-being.

In a conversation with Jagran English, Dr. Sameer Malhotra, Director and Head, Mental Health and Behavioral Science, Max Hospital, Saket explained the ways to tackle mental health fatigue at the workplace.

To prevent mental health fatigue, it’s important to live a healthy lifestyle and nurture values like kindness, empathy and respect. A positive home environment, life skills education and making time for others can help improve emotional health. Taking part in hobbies, spending time outdoors, visiting family and friends and engaging in real, meaningful conversations are all ways to feel more connected and less lonely. Small acts of concern and empathy can also make a big difference in our mental state.
Having positive and supportive social networks is crucial.

Ways To Combat Mental Health Fatigue At Workplace

At work, a good balance between work and personal life is essential to avoid burnout. Clear systems and communication at work can help people manage their responsibilities without feeling overwhelmed. It's also important for workers to know that seeking professional help for mental health won’t lead to negative consequences like losing their jobs or missing out on promotions. Time off work for family and personal life, getting enough sleep and making time for relaxation are all key to maintaining mental health.

Engaging in personal hobbies, exercising and spending time relaxing can help recharge the mind and body. Setting realistic expectations and having clearly defined roles at work can also reduce stress. Good work ethics, clear communication and teamwork help create a positive work environment.

A positive workplace should support employees with motivation and a comfortable environment things like green plants, soothing music and a welcoming atmosphere can help make work more enjoyable. It’s important to have healthy connections at work and not become too entangled in others' issues. Workplaces should focus not only on financial gains but also on creating a healthier, happier environment for employees to grow both personally and professionally.
