Effects Of Vaping Devices On Health: Vaping devices and e-cigarettes have surged in popularity in recent years, especially among young adults and teens, largely due to misconceptions about their safety compared to traditional tobacco products. However, mounting evidence highlights the serious health risks associated with these devices.

In a conversation with Jagran English, Dr Sreenivass B J, Medical Oncologist and Lung Cancer Specialist, HCG Cancer Hospital, Bangalore explained how vaping devices and e-cigarettes affect one’s health.

According to Dr Sreenivass, one of the most pressing concerns is the potential for lung damage. While e-cigarettes are often marketed as a safer alternative to smoking, they still deliver harmful chemicals and ultrafine particles deep into the lungs. This can lead to inflammation, respiratory issues, and even irreversible lung damage. Moreover, the liquid used in e-cigarettes typically contains nicotine, which is highly addictive and can harm brain development in adolescents.

Additionally, there have been alarming reports of severe lung injuries and even deaths linked to vaping, particularly among those who use black-market vaping products or modify their devices to vape THC, the psychoactive component of marijuana. These incidents underscore the dangers of unregulated vaping products and the need for stricter oversight.

Furthermore, the long-term health effects of vaping are still not fully understood, as the industry is relatively new and research is ongoing. However, emerging studies suggest potential links between vaping and increased risk of heart disease, stroke, and other serious health conditions.

Another concerning aspect is the appeal of e-cigarettes to non-smokers, particularly youth. Clever marketing tactics, enticing flavours, and sleek designs have made vaping attractive to a new generation, leading to a concerning rise in nicotine addiction and subsequent health risks among adolescents.

In light of these risks, policymakers must implement stricter regulations on vaping products, including bans on flavoured e-cigarettes and restrictions on marketing tactics that target youth. Additionally, public health campaigns are needed to educate the public, especially young people, about the dangers of vaping and promote smoking cessation programs.

Ultimately, while vaping devices may seem like a trendy and harmless alternative to smoking, the evidence overwhelmingly points to their potential for serious health risks. Individuals must be aware of these dangers and make informed decisions about their health and well-being.
