New Delhi | Jagran News Desk: International Men's day is celebrated on November 19 each year to protect men from inequality, discrimination, exploitation and violence and give them their basic rights. Supported by UNESCO, it is celebrated around 80 countries including India. This year the theme of International Men's Day is "Making a Difference for Men and Boys".
The history of this day dates back to 1969 when a report was first published on The New York Times that "Many men have been agitating privately to make February 23 as International Men's Day. International Men's Day was finally officiated in 1999 by Dr. Jerome Teelucksingh, a history professor at the University of Trinidad and Tobago. Later, in 2007, an Indian woman advocate Uma Challa, a single mother of two children introduced the concept of International Men's Day in India.
