International Yoga Day 2025 is more than just a celebration of physical postures, it's a global reminder of yoga's transformative power to heal from the inside out. While many people associate yoga with flexibility and fitness, its true potential lies much deeper. Rooted in ancient Ayurvedic wisdom, yoga harmonises the body’s internal systems, balancing prana (vital life force), regulating stress hormones and strengthening organ function. Whether you're battling digestive discomfort, restless nights, or dull skin, yoga offers natural, sustainable relief without side effects.
Yoga works beyond the surface to improve three key pillars of your well-being, namely skin, gut, and sleep. Simple postures and breathwork can purify your blood, soothe your nervous system, and support gut health—all of which directly impact how you look and feel. In conversation with The Daily Jagran, Dr Partap Chauhan, Ayurvedic Acharya & Director, Jiva Ayurveda, shares that yoga is not just an exercise but an inner medicine working on skin, gut and sleep.
Yoga is often viewed as a physical exercise, but that’s only a small part of its potential. From improving your digestion and calming your mind to giving your skin a healthy glow, yoga touches nearly every function in your body. In Ayurveda, yoga is not separate from healing—it is part of it. Dr Partap Chauhan states, “It works not just on the muscles and bones, but also on prana (vital energy), which governs many key processes, including metabolism, detoxification, and cellular repair.”

Skin: More Than Just a Surface Benefit
Your skin reflects what’s happening inside. Poor digestion, high stress, and disturbed sleep all show up on your face sooner or later. Regular yoga practice helps purify the blood, improve oxygen flow, and support the liver’s detox function. Dr Partap Chauha says, “Poses that improve circulation like Sarvangasana (Shoulder Stand) or deep breathing exercises like Anulom Vilom are especially effective. When your body is functioning well internally, your skin naturally clears up and regains its natural radiance.”
Sleep: Resetting Your Inner Clock
One of the most underrated benefits of yoga is how quickly it resets your circadian rhythm. The mind slows down. Cortisol levels drop. And your nervous system finally gets a chance to rest. Dr Partap Chauha mentions, “Practices such as Yoga Nidra, Bhramari pranayama, or even ten minutes of mindful breathing before bed can work better than sleeping pills over time.” You’ll start to notice not only better sleep, but also waking up more refreshed and alert.

Digestion: Where It All Begins
Ayurveda says that all diseases begin in the gut. And it’s true. A disturbed gut can mess up your hormones, trigger skin problems, and make you feel anxious. Dr Partap Chauha explains, “Yoga improves peristalsis (the natural wave-like movement of the intestines), supports agni (digestive fire), and keeps the digestive organs relaxed and active.” Pavanmuktasana, Vajrasana after meals, and twisting poses can go a long way in strengthening your gut health.

The Holistic Touch
Yoga, when combined with Ayurvedic wisdom, is not just a lifestyle hack—it’s a deep, sustainable way to transform how your body functions. You don’t have to do everything at once, but even a small daily practice will begin to shift things inside you. Try it not as a task, but as a tune-up for your inner self. You’ll feel the difference, one breath at a time.
