Benefits Of Oiling Body Before Bed: It has been long back in tradition to oil your body before going to bed to keep it clean and healthy. Oiling promotes blood circulation, hydrates and moisturises dry skin, reduces signs of ageing, clears the skin, clears stretch marks and scars and promotes relaxed and calm feelings. Oiling before bed makes you fall asleep easily and wake up feeling refreshed.
In a conversation with Jagran English, Dr Tushar Tayal, Lead Consultant, Department of Internal Medicine, CK Birla Hospital, Gurugram explained how oiling the body before bed is a good practice.

Benefits Of Oiling Body Before Bed
According to Dr Tayal, from time immemorial, the application of oil on the body has been a part of Indian culture and heritage. The benefits of oiling the body have been enumerated in Ayurveda and especially in southern Indian states, oil massage is advocated for relief of different kinds of ailments. In recent years, there has been a boom in Ayurvedic centres providing oil massage and holistic health services.
The science behind oiling is that there is the release of endorphins on application of pressure on certain body areas which helps in decreasing physical and mental stress. Similar benefits can be derived by oiling the body before sleeping because it gives the body adequate time to absorb the oil and makes the body warm, calms the nerves and induces a good night's sleep. Oiling the body also helps in reducing dryness of the skin and helps in conditions such as eczema. Oiling joints such as knee, shoulder and hip joints help in reducing stiffness and increase mobility.

Applying oil to the feet helps in softening calluses, removes dead skin and prevents cracking. Also, there are numerous acupressure points in the feet and massaging the feet with oil activates these points which purportedly has many health benefits.
Massaging the nails with oil helps in strengthening them and prevents brittleness. Applying oil to the scalp helps in conditioning the hair and relieves stress and tension and may help with headaches and migraines. The best oils to use are neutral oils such as Cold pressed coconut oil, Almond oil and sesame oil.
