Skipping lunch can occasionally be beneficial for your health and weight loss. When done intentionally and in certain cases, for instance, intermittent fasting has become more popular due to the possible benefits, and this method can include skipping a meal like lunch. It can help control blood sugar levels, improve insulin sensitivity, and encourage fat burning by giving your body a long pause from eating.
Dr. Jyoti Khaniojh, who is a dietitian, nutritionist, and dietitian at Max Super Speciality Hospital in Patparganj, exclusively told Jagran English about whether it is good to avoid lunch or not.

Dr. Jyoti said, Skipping lunch can have both short-term and long-term effects on the human body. In the short term, skipping lunch may lead to a drop in blood sugar levels, causing symptoms like irritability, fatigue, and difficulty concentrating. This can also trigger overeating during subsequent meals, leading to unhealthy food choices and weight gain. Furthermore, prolonged skipping of meals, including lunch, can disrupt your body's metabolism. It can slow down your metabolic rate as your body enters a conservation mode to conserve energy. This, in turn, may make it harder to maintain a healthy weight and lead to the storage of excess calories as fat."

She also added that nutrient deficiencies are another concern when you skip lunch regularly. Lunch provides an opportunity to consume essential nutrients like vitamins, minerals, and fiber. Missing out on these nutrients can have a long-term impact on your health, potentially increasing the risk of chronic diseases. In contrast, having a balanced lunch with a mix of carbohydrates, protein, and healthy fats can provide you with sustained energy, improve concentration, and support overall health. It also helps regulate your appetite and reduces the likelihood of overeating later in the day."

At last, Dr. Jyoti said,While occasional skipping of lunch may not have severe consequences, regularly doing so can disrupt your body's metabolic and nutritional balance, impacting your physical and mental well-being. A balanced lunch is an important part of maintaining a healthy lifestyle."
