Bali Breakup Curse: Bali is known as the “Island of the Gods” and is one of the most travelled islands for international getaways, for the dreamy Instagram shots of Ubud’s rice terraces, Canggu’s surf breaks and the sunset magic at Tanah Lot Temple. But for some couples, Bali feels more like an island of heartbreak. Recently, a trending legend that’s resurfacing on TikTok and travel blogs is the Bali Breakup Curse. A legend that went viral over a decade ago is again coming to the spotlight for the reason that it is becoming a rising concern among unmarried couples. The question ‘Is the Bali Breakup Curse real’ is something to look out for.

What Is The Bali Breakup Curse?

According to the local legend, the Bali Breakup curse mainly happens to the unmarried couples who visit certain sacred sites, especially the iconic Tanah Lot Temple and risk breakup of their relationship even before the vacation gets over. The curse has become a hot topic on Bali travel forums, with influencers and travel bloggers sharing stories of love gone wrong after a romantic Bali trip.

How Did The Story Of The Bali Breakup Curse Begin?

The Bali breakup curse is said to have begun from a local legend about a Brahmin Prince and Princess who travelled from Java to Tanah Lot for a romantic trip. After becoming intimate, the Prince abandoned the Princess, who then cursed the land so that any unmarried couple visiting the temple would break up within six months. There are several versions of this story. Some people say that the curse only applies if the unmarried couples visit Tanah Lot, while others claim that it is linked to Bali as a whole. Whether the Bali breakup curse is real or not is unknown, as there is no scientific evidence of the curse; it is considered a Balinese superstition rooted in the island’s spiritual culture, attributing breakups to travel stress or incompatibility rather than any spiritual force.
