This summer, the ice dunking trend is making waves in the skincare world, with celebrities like Alia Bhatt and Ananya Panday swearing by its benefits. Ice has long been a skincare staple and dunking your face in icy water can reduce puffiness and boost circulation. The social media sensation "ice dunk" skincare trend in which individuals dip their faces in ice water for a short time has swept social media. But is this cold ritual worth the hype or is it a fleeting fad?
In a conversation with Jagran English, Dr. Ruben Bhasin Passi, Consultant, Dermatologist, CK Birla Hospital Gurugram explained the popular ice dunk trend.

The doctor said that the ice dunk can have some short-term benefits but it’s not a magic fix for all your skin concerns.

Cold therapy is also said to tighten blood vessels which can cause puffiness to decrease, shrink pores for a short while and make your skin look more refreshed which is why ice facials or cold compresses have been used for ages to quiet inflammation or ease irritated skin. An ice dunk can revive fatigued-looking skin, particularly in the morning and diminish redness in cases like mild acne or rosacea but the relief is short-lived.
But constant or extended immersion in cold water can interfere with your skin barrier, particularly for sensitive, dry or eczema skin. Doing it in excess may result in dryness, irritation or even broken capillaries. Individuals with underlying skin issues should take extra care.

While an occasional fun ice dunk is a rush, it shouldn't be substituted for a real skincare routine. Gentle washing, sun protection, moisturising and products that work with your skin type are much more effective in the long term.
If you’re curious to try the trend, limit the dunk to under 30 seconds and avoid using actual ice cubes directly on your skin. And always listen to how your skin reacts glowing skin is more about consistency and care than viral hacks.
