Kheera vs Kakdi: With the scorching heat of the summer setting in, staying cool and hydrated becomes the top priority. Nothing can be better than beating the heat with fresh, water-rich foods. That being said, kheera (cucumber) and kakdi (snake cucumber) are the two seasonal favourites in Indian households. Both of these vegetables are crisp, refreshing and loaded with high water content as well as nutrition. Besides being hydrating, they also have cooling properties, which keep the body cool in the summer season. Although kheera and kakdi may look similar at a glance, there are huge differences between them. Often, the question arises whether to eat kheera or kakdi for better health and hydration in summer.
Kheera And Its Benefits
Popularly known as cucumber, kheera is rich in water and has a good amount of vitamin B, C and minerals like copper, phosphorus, potassium and magnesium. They help maintain blood sugar levels. Besides, they are low in calories and are rich in antioxidants, such as flavinoids and tannins which have anti-inflammatory properties.
Kakdi And Its Benefits
Also known as American Cucumber, Gavthi Kakdi or Snake Melon, kakdi is loaded with antioxidants and protect skin from harmful UV rays of the sun. They are crispy, mildly sweet and taste more or less similar to cucumber from inside. They contain vitamins and minerals like vitamin K and C, potassium and magnesium.

Kheera vs Kakdi: Which is Healthier And More Hydrating?
Both kheera and kakdi are excellent summer staples, having high water content and cooling properties. Kakdi typically contain slightly more water than kheera, making it more hydrating, perfect for replenishing fluids during the hot weather. Snake cucumber is often consumed with the skin on as it has dietary fibre and antioxidants. Cucumber or kheera, on he other hand, has a smoother texture and is slightly richer in nutrients like vitamin K and potassium, supporting bone health and blood pressure regulation. To conclude, kakdi is more hydrating while kheera is more nutrient-rich, making both of them excellent for a summer diet.
