Lip Balm vs Lip Oil For Cracked Lips:: Winter season is at its peak with the combination of cold air, low humidity and excess indoor heat, making the lips suffer a lot. The skin on our lips is thinner than the rest of the face, having fewer oil glands to naturally protect it. As a result, lips become dry, cracked and painful. To combat the problems of dry and cracked lips, people often opt for lip balms or lip oils. Although both products help soothe the lips, they work differently. Both lip balms and lip oils promise hydration and nourishment; however, the main question is which one heals better for dry and cracked lips in winter. Let’s take a look.

Lip Balms And Their Benefits

The lip balms provide a tough yet hydrating barrier, which is created by natural ingredients like beeswax, shea butter and ceramides. They provide an effective barrier that prevents moisture loss while helping restore severely damaged and cracked lips. I have always used lip balms both day and night wear as they protect the lips from harsh winter winds and provide relief from soreness and tightness of the lip area.

Lip Oils And Their Benefits

Lip oils combine the benefits of skincare along with shine, thus providing lip moisture through the blended use of ojoba, rosehip and almond oils. While the combination of these oils does provide fast-absorbing moisture and plumpness, they are overall lightweight and therefore do not feel heavy on the lips. I have been wearing lip oils daily for the protection of the lips against the extreme winter cold. Besides, it also makes my lips nourished and glowy.

Lip Balm vs Lip Oil: Key Differences

Lip Balm: This is ideal for curing dried, cracked lips during the winter season. Moreover, it lasts even when exposed to the harsh elements of the weather.

Lip Oil: The best way to keep the lips hydrated and moisturised is by using lip oil. It suits milder lip care needs and provides nice aesthetics.

Thus, choosing between lip balm and lip oil depends on your needs. If you need to repair your lips, opt for lip balm and for lip colour, lip oils serve the purpose. Many beauty enthusiasts use lip balm for overnight repair and lip oil for daytime hydration and glow.

Moreover, while choosing balm or an oil, the ingredients matter a lot. Look for nourishing and natural components like Shea butter, beeswax, coconut oil, jojoba oil, Vitamin E, almond oil and rosehip oil. These ingredients support regeneration and hydration without any side effects. Avoid excessive fragrance, menthol or alcohol-based ingredients as they worsen dryness over time.

Thus, lip balms are a better choice when it comes to healing dry and cracked lips than lip oils. Balms protect the lips much better than oils and last longer against the weather. Oils are good for hydrating and making lips shiny during warmer times.
