Liver Transplantation Types

One of the main causes of a liver transplant is end-stage liver disease, a serious and life-threatening illness brought on by numerous liver ailments.

Additionally, cirrhosis is a chronic liver condition. Essentially, end-stage liver disease is often brought on by the scarring of healthy liver tissue, which is what chronic liver disease is. End-stage disease, which arises when the liver tissue really dies as a result of an acute illness or a reaction to medication, biliary atresia, toxins, or other factors, is another disorder that can develop.

Liver Transplantation Procedure

A psychiatric and social evaluation, blood testing, and diagnostic exams are all part of the transplant evaluation procedure. In addition, a mammogram, a gynaecology exam, and a Pap test are options for women. Candidates may not be eligible if they have an ongoing or incurable infection, metastatic cancer, severe heart issues, or any other serious medical condition that would not improve after a transplant or if they are unable to adhere to a treatment plan. Each transplant centre has its own eligibility requirements for liver transplant candidates.
