Mahavir Jayanti 2024: The occasion of Mahavir Jayanti is observed with tremendous dedication and enthusiasm throughout the country each year. It is a significant religious holiday for the Jain community. This important occasion commemorates the birth anniversary of Lord Mahavira, the 24th Tirthankara of Jainism and is regarded as the largest event of the Jain community. Mahavir Jayanti is observed on the 13th day of the waxing moon phase in the Chaitra month of the Hindu calendar, commemorating the birth of Lord Mahavir, the 24th Tirthankar of Jainism. Lord Mahavir, also known as Vardhaman, created Jainism's core precepts. This year, Mahavir Jayanti is being celebrated on April 21 across the nation. Facts About Lord Mahavir
According to historical evidence, Mahavira was the 24th and last Thirthankara (Teaching God who preaches dharma) of the Jain religion, born in 599 BC to King Siddhartha and Queen Trishala.
He preached philosophy to encourage non-violence (Ahimsa), truthfulness (Satya), chastity (Brahmacharya), non-stealing (Asatya) and simple living (Aparigraha).

He is called by five different names including Vardhman, Veer, Ativeer, Mahaveer and Sanmati.
He stripped himself of all clothes and tore his hair out from his roots as he was above all pain. Jains believe that Mahavira wore no clothes after that.
Vaishali, in Bihar which is regarded as the birthplace of Mahavira, grandly celebrates this auspicious day. This occasion is also known as Vaishali Mahotsava.
Some of the famous Jain pilgrimage destinations in India where Mahavir Jayanti is celebrated grandly are Palitana, Ranakpur, Shravanabelagola, Dilwara Temple, Khandagiri Caves and Udayagiri Caves.
Teachings Of Lord Mahavir
Lord Mahavira teaches that one should constantly follow the path of nonviolence (Ahimsa) and avoid causing damage to any living thing. He went on to emphasise that no living species on this earth should be harmed in any manner, whether by speech, purpose, or action.
He believed that a person should be truthful to themselves and others. Speaking the truth is beneficial, and you should aim to be entirely honest each day.
