The festive time of Navratri brings with it rich celebrations, glamorous attire, and limitless enthusiasm for nine nights of dance, spirituality, and merriment. But along with all the fanfare, also arises the dilemma of preserving healthy, glowing skin with makeup each day. Extended dandiya nights, exposure to dust, perspiration, and heavy makeup take their toll, instead resulting in dullness, acne, or irritation. This is why adhering to the correct skincare and makeup rituals becomes necessary to maintain your face's radiance easily throughout the celebrations.

To achieve that ideal festive glow, beauty professionals insist on a judicious balance between skincare and makeup. Right from preparing the skin prior to putting on products to picking the right formulas for your skin type, these makeup dos and don'ts can be the difference-maker. In conversation with The Daily Jagran, Dr Ameesha Mahajan, Cosmetic Dermatologist & Founder, Eden Skin Clinic, shares makeup dos and don’ts to get glowing and acne-free skin this Navratri.

Makeup Dos For A Healthy Festive Glow

Prep Your Skin First: Face needs to be thoroughly cleansed and hydrated before applying makeup. Dr Ameesha Mahajan states, “A lightweight moisturiser as well as a primer helps to create a smooth base for makeup application and doesn't let the makeup residues clog the skin pores.

Choose Non-Comedogenic Products: Makeup products used should be non-comedogenic in nature, such as water-based foundations and concealers and mineral-based powders.

Go Light With Layers: Less is more. Heavy foundation mixed with sweat increases the chances of breakouts. Instead, use breathable, long-wear formulas.

Set With Powder: A dab of translucent powder on oily zones helps makeup last longer without melting.

Remove Makeup Thoroughly: Double cleansing with micellar water followed by a gentle face wash ensures no residue stays behind.

Makeup Don’ts To Avoid Breakouts During Festive Season

Skipping Sunscreen: “Even at night events, UV rays during the day can damage skin. Use a gel-based SPF under your makeup,” states Dr Ameesha Mahajan.

Sharing Makeup Products: Lipsticks, eyeliners, and brushes, can transfer bacteria and cause infections. Always carry your own.

Sleeping With Makeup On: This is the fastest way to trigger acne. Always clean your face before bed, no matter how late the celebration ends.

Overusing Waterproof Makeup: While long-lasting, it often requires harsh rubbing to remove, which irritates skin. Use sparingly.
