Oral Health: Poor oral health and hygiene are associated with several dental problems such as dental cavities, toothache and gum diseases. It is important to take effective measures to maintain healthy teeth and gums. One of the most common oral health problems experienced by people is toothache.
A toothache is a pain in or around the tooth which can occur from temporary gum irritation. According to WebMD, dental infection, decay, injury, or loss of a tooth are the most common causes of dental pain. If you are experiencing a toothache, here are some home remedies that can help get relief from the excruciating pain, but going to the dentist should be your priority.
1. Ice Pack
According to WebMD, you can use an ice pack when suffering from a toothache. Put some ice in your hand, on the same side of the body as your sore tooth. Rub the ice in the space between your thumb and forefinger for seven minutes, or until the area turns numb.
2. Clove Oil
Clove oil, also known as Eugenol is an effective natural oil extracted from cloves and is known to be effective for dental pain. Using clove oil for toothaches helps in numbing the pain and getting relief. WebMD suggests you can rub it directly on the sore area, or soak a cotton ball and dab it against the tooth and gums.
3. Saltwater Rinse
Saltwater rinses are another effective remedy that can ease tooth pain. Saltwater rinses kill many types of bacteria via osmosis, which removes the water from the bacteria. Apart from killing different types of bacteria from the mouth, saltwater rinse also treats other oral concerns. According to the Oral Cancer Foundation, saltwater rinses can be safer alternatives while also killing bacteria and keeping your mouth clean.
4. Peppermint Tea
According to Healthline, peppermint tea can also be used to numb the pain and get relief from toothache. According to Healthline, allow a used tea bag to cool down a little before applying it to the affected area. It should still be slightly warm.
5. Guava Leaves
Guava leaves are known to be effective for dental problems including toothache. Guava leaves have anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial properties that can help heal wounds and aid in oral care. Healthline suggests to To use this remedy, chew on fresh guava leaves or add crushed guava leaves to boiling water to make a mouthwash.
