Sawan 2023: The auspicious month of Sawan began this month on July 4 and the celebrations of the most pious month in the Hindu calendar are in full swing. This pious month is devoted to Lord Shiva and devotees worship the deity with utmost dedication and devotion to seek his blessings. Also known as Shrawan maas, this month holds great significance in the Hindu community and devotees observe fasts during Shravan month. During Sawan month, it is considered highly auspicious to visit Lord Shiva's temples and seek blessings. Here is a list of some popular Lord Shiva temples in the country that you can visit and embark on your spiritual journey.
1. Mahakaleshwar Jyotirlinga, Ujjain

It is one of the main Lord Shiva temples in India and one of the 12 Jyotirlinga of Shiva. It is considered one of the sacred places of Lord Shiva and is located in Ujjain city of Madhya Pradesh in India. According to popular religious beliefs, it is said that the Lingam or Shivling has its own immense powers and was established by the power of a holy mantra.
2. Omkareshwar Mahadev Temple, Shivapuri

Situated on an island named Mandhata or Shivpuri in the Narmada River in Khandwa district in Madhya Pradesh, Omkareshwar temple is also one of the 12 Jyotirlingas of Lord Shiva. The shape of the island this temple is located on is believed to resemble a Hindu holy symbol. There are two temples namely Omkareshwar and Mamleshwar, located on the banks of the Narmada river. According to popular legends, King Mandhata worshipped Lord Shiva near the Narmada River.
3. Bhimashankar Temple, Pune

This temple of Lord Shiva is located in Pune, Maharashtra and is of great importance. It is among one of the twelve traditional 'Jyotirlinga' shrines of Lord Shiva and is surrounded by hills and is covered by thick green rainforests. According to Hindu scriptures, the name of this temple originated from the river Bhima which evaporated as a result of the war between Lord Shiva and the demon Tripurasura.
4. Vadakkunnathan Temple, Thrissur

It is an ancient Lord Shiva temple located in the city of Thrissur, Kerala. This temple has received the Award of Excellence from UNESCO and is one of the oldest temples in Kerala. The temple consists of an old museum which reflects the culture and art of Kerala.
5. Grishneshwar Temple, Aurangabad
