Shardiya Navratri 2023 Day 1: The first day of the nine-day festival of Navratri will be observed on October 15 after the culmination of Pitru Paksha. Each day of Shardiya Navratri is dedicated to nine different and powerful avatars of Goddess Durga. On the first day of Shardiya Navratri, devotees worship Maa Shailputri, who governs the Moon and is also known as Hemavati and Parvati.

According to Drik Panchang, the mount of Goddess Shailputri is a bull and because of that, she is also known as Vrisharudha. Goddess Shailputri is depicted with two hands. In Sanskrit Shail means the mountain and due to this Goddess was known as Shailputri, the daughter of the mountain.
