Somvati Amavasya 2023: The occasion of Amavasya is highly auspicious in the Hindu community. It is observed on the New Moon day every year with great devotion and dedication. The Amavasya Tithi which falls on Monday is known as Somvati Amavasya. This year, Shrawan Somvati Amavasya will be observed on July 17 across the country.

Shrawan Somvati Amavasya will be observed on July 17. The Amavasya tithi will begin at 10:08 PM on July 16 and will end at 12:01 AM on July 18, 2023. 

Somvati Amavasya Shubh Yog

According to Hindu Panchang, Punarvasu Nakshatra is being formed on Somvati Amavasya, along with this Sarvartha Siddhi Yoga will also be formed on this special occasion day. The Punarvasu Nakshatra will remain till 05:11 AM on July 18 and Sarvartha Siddhi Yoga will remain from 05:11 AM to 05:35 AM on July 18. Along with this, Harshan Yoga is also being created which will start from 08:58 AM.

Somvati Amavasya 2023: Significance

Amavasya, also known as the new moon day, is a significant day in the Hindu calendar. It is observed every month when the moon is not visible in the sky. It is also an auspicious day when devotees pay homage to their ancestors. It is believed that on this day the spirits of ancestors come on the Earth to bless their descendants. It is also a great occasion to worship Lord Shiva and Lord Vishnu and seek the blessings of the deities. 

Somvati Amavasya 2023: Puja Rituals

1. Devotees should wake up early in the morning and visit the temple on this day.

2. Take a bath in holy rivers and perform Havana, yajna, tarpan and pind daan on this auspicious day.

3. Devotees should offer clothes to priests who perform the puja.

4. You can also organise Gayatri Mantra Japp through a priest for your ancestors.

5. The devotees who are not able to visit holy places, can put Ganga Jal in normal water and take a holy bath at home.
