Habits That Cause Early Ageing: The health of our body depends on the foods we eat, the amounts of sleep we take, the stress our body takes, water intake and many other factors. We all age, but premature ageing can happen rather faster than it should because of certain environmental factors and lifestyle habits. Some of the most common signs of premature ageing include fine lines, dark circles, wrinkles, age spots, dryness or loss of skin tone, greying hair or gaunt face. In this article, we will discuss certain lifestyle habits that may be the culprits behind premature ageing.

Poor Sleep

One of the most common factors that affects our body’s ageing is the quality and quantity of sleep. According to the Cleveland Clinic, low-quality (or not enough) sleep makes your cells age faster. When you are stressed, your brain pumps out cortisol, a stress hormone. Cortisol blocks two substances that keep your skin looking plump and vibrant; hyaluronan synthase and collagen.

Dehydration

Dehydration can cause the skin to weaken its defence system and lead to skin sensitivity, irritation and premature ageing. When the skin lacks water, it can appear dull, dry and flaky. Dehydration can also lead to fine lines and wrinkles.

Lack Of Exercise

Regular physical activity helps to improve blood circulation and effectively transports oxygen and nutrients to different body parts. This further promotes healthy ageing. Even 30 minutes of moderate exercise regularly is just enough to keep your skin and body healthy. 

Excessive Alcohol Consumption

The WebMD states that alcohol can affect the way some vital organs work and make them age faster. While heavy drinkers are more likely to have cirrhosis (permanent damage to your liver), even moderate drinking can lead to problems like fatty liver disease. It also can make it harder for your kidneys to do their thing.

Smoking

Another big factor in premature ageing is smoking. The toxins present in tobacco reduce the blood flow to the skin cells, reduce moisture in debris and break down collagen and elastin, leading to wrinkles and fine lines. Smoking is an independent factor for premature facial wrinkling and facial ageing.
