Beer is one of the most common and consumed alcoholic beverages. It is one of the oldest alcoholic drinks that is made from brewing and fermentation of cereals. With the scorching sun on our heads, all we look for is chilling drinks to get respite from the extreme heat prevailing in the country. Beer is a chilling drink that is an integral summer essential for almost everybody.
But do you know that beer is not a drink for everyone and anyone? Certain categories of people should avoid consuming beer in any given situation. Here is a list of people who should abstain from drinking beer regularly or eliminate it from their routine.
People Who Should Not Drink Beer
People With Diabetes Or Prediabetes
Diabetes is a health condition in which either the body does not produce enough insulin or is unable to use the produced insulin. Whereas, prediabetes is a condition in which you experience higher blood sugar levels than normal but not enough to be considered type 2 diabetes. You should know that beer contains sugar content that can lead to a rapid increase in blood sugar and also cause hypoglycemia.
Overweight Or Underweight
If you are someone who is trying to lose weight, you may want to stay away from this alcoholic beverage. Beer is high in calories and low in nutritional value which can lead to unwanted weight gain. While if you are trying to gain weight, drinking beer can lead to an empty calorie intake.

People With Celiac Disease

According to NIDDK, celiac disease is a chronic digestive and immune disorder that damages the small intestine. The disease is triggered by eating foods containing gluten. The disease can cause long-lasting digestive problems and keep your body from getting all the nutrients it needs. Beer is a gluten-rich drink that can cause an inflammatory response in the gut and lead to gastrointestinal symptoms.
People With IBS
Irritable bowel syndrome is a common disorder that affects the stomach and intestines. People with IBS should strictly avoid consuming beer as it can cause bloating, gas, diarrhoea and abdominal pain.
Heartburn
Heartburn is usually a burning sensation in your chest that gets worse after eating. People who frequently experience heartburn should avoid beer as it can weaken the ability of the lower esophageal sphincter to perform its functions well. This can cause adverse symptoms of heartburn.
