Long-Haul Flight Tips: While travel may be exciting for most travel enthusiasts, what becomes overwhelming is the long-haul flights. They often have to challenge issues such as tiredness, dehydration and restlessness that come with sitting for 9-10 hours in the aircraft. The long journey can often make you feel unrefreshed and unwell upon arrival. However, with long-haul flight travel tips and a bit of preparedness, you can witness all the differences in how you feel when you land. By paying attention to the travel comfort and well-being mid-flight, you will arrive at your destination feeling fresh, relaxed and recharged.

Navigating between time zone changes and cabin pressure can add to the physical toll of long-haul travel. Hufriya Bhivandiwalla, Air India’s seasoned cabin crew, shared some long-haul flight tips that can make your long journey a relaxing and pleasant experience. Here are six tips for long-haul flights that you must know before your journey.

Best Tips For A Relaxing Long-Haul Flight

Hydration Is The Key

The first and foremost tip is to drink ample water for any long-haul flight. This is because the aircraft cabin is dry, making you feel dehydrated and thus drained at the end of the journey. Drink at least one and a half litres of water during your flight. Keep a sipper bottle handy for frequent consumption. Avoid caffeinated or aerated beverages as much as possible.

Avoid Jet Lag

Avoid jet lag by preparing well before your journey. Adapt your body clock according to the time zone of your destination in the days leading up to your travel. Try to align your meals and sleeping schedules with the time zone by setting your watch accordingly.

Sleep Well

Often, it is a challenge to get a restful sleep on a flight. From the lights to the cabin temperature, the conditions may make it tough for you to get a proper sleep. Thus, a tip for sleeping on a long flight is to pick a seat away from busy areas like the galley and the lavatories. You can also bring a neck pillow for better support and use noise-cancelling earphones or earplugs and an eye mask to block out distractions. Play some calm music to ease the journey.

Stay Comfortable And Active

Long hours of sitting on a flight can lead to feeling stiff and uncomfortable. Thus, take a few minutes at regular intervals to stretch your back, move your neck, shoulders, waist and limbs. When the seat-belt sign is off, you can take a quick stroll down the aisle every couple of hours. Also, opt for loose-fitting clothes and comfortable shoes, as they help in promoting healthy blood flow.

Skincare Is Essential

Caring for your skin is equally essential for your skin. Avoid heavy makeup and let your skin breathe. Apply a light moisturiser on your hands, feet and face to fight dryness. As the UV rays are stronger at high altitude, sunscreen is essential. Reapply at regular hours to minimise the harsh effect of the sun.
