Abrosexuality Meaning: A new evolving identity known as abrosexuality is making waves on the internet. Abrosexuality describes a sexual orientation marked by a fluid or shifting attraction to various genders over time. Unlike more static sexual orientations, those who identify as abrosexual experience changes in their sexual preferences and attractions which can fluctuate in intensity and direction. 

This nuanced view of sexual attraction highlights the complexity of human sexuality and underscores the need for recognition and respect of diverse experiences. As discussions around sexual orientation become more inclusive, understanding emerging identities like abrosexuality is crucial for fostering a supportive environment for everyone.

Emma Flint, a UK-based woman got candid about how she came across the term abrosexuality and how it has transformed her life. For an interview with Mirror, Flint wrote, "It was only when I was reading the Instagram page of Zoe Stoller, a US-based creator, educator and social worker, who seeks to improve the visibility of the LGBTQ+ community, that I saw the term abrosexuality for the first time. You know, in cartoons, when a lightbulb appears above their heads? That's how it felt when I read their post. Finally, I feel seen.''

Soe Stoller, a US-based social worker and LGBTQ+ educator explained the term ‘abrosexual’ in an interview with Buzzfeed and quoted, “Some abrosexual people might identify with different sexuality labels at different times, for example, some days they might use the label pansexual, whereas other days they might use the label lesbian. Other abrosexual people might use the label abrosexual. This label can be thought of as the sexuality version of the gender identity label genderfluid."

What Is Abrosexuality?

Abrosexuality combines the Greek word ‘abros,’ meaning ‘delicate’ or ‘fluid,’ with ‘sexuality,’ indicating its focus on sexual attraction. Individuals who identify as abrosexual experience variability in their sexual attraction, which can change based on emotional states, personal growth or shifts in life circumstances. Unlike those with more fixed sexual orientations, abrosexual people may feel drawn to different genders at different times or their level of attraction might vary.

How To Identify Abrosexual?

According to WebMD, due to their fluid sexual orientation, people who are abrosexual may find themselves in relationships with people of different gender identities and sexual orientations.
If you are abrosexual, it might be a good idea to communicate your boundaries with any potential partners, especially when you experience a change in sexual orientation.

A person who is abroromantic may want to have a romantic relationship but not necessarily want to have sex. A person who is abrosexual may want to have sex but not necessarily want a romantic relationship. However, sometimes the two terms are used interchangeably.

Abrosexuality represents a growing understanding of sexual orientation emphasising the fluid and varied nature of human attraction. Recognising and respecting abrosexual identities contributes to a more inclusive and supportive society. Embracing the complexity of sexual orientation allows individuals to feel validated and understood, ultimately fostering a deeper appreciation for the diverse spectrum of human sexuality.
