Chaat Masala Recipe

INGREDIENTS:

  • 1 cup coriander seeds
  • 2 tbsp cumin seeds
  • 1 tsp black pepper
  • 5-6 cloves
  • 10-12 dried red chillies
  • 1 tsp hing
  • 1 tbsp melon seeds
  • 1 tsp nutmeg powder
  • 1 tbsp ginger powder
  • 2 tbsp dried mango powder
  • 1 tbsp dried mint powder
  • 2 tbsp salt
  • 2 tbsp rock salt
  • 2 tbsp black salt

STEPS:

1. Begin by dry roasting coriander seeds in a pan over low-medium heat, stirring occasionally, until fragrant and lightly browned.

2. Add cumin seeds, black pepper, cloves, red chillies, hing, nutmeg powder and melon seeds to the pan and continue roasting while stirring frequently until the mixture emits a warm and spicy aroma.

3. Remove the pan from the heat and let the mixture cool down completely, allowing the flavours to meld together.

4. Transfer the cooled spice mixture to a mixer grinder jar and grind into a fine powder, ensuring that the spices are evenly blended and powdered.

5. Add dry ginger powder, dried mango powder, dried mint powder, salt, rock salt and black salt to the grinder jar and mix well. Grind the mixture again until the spices are evenly blended.

6. Strain the chaat masala powder through a fine strainer to remove any lumps or large particles. Store the powder in an airtight container to preserve freshness.
