Do you know that early detection is key to effective medical management of ovarian, cervical, and breast cancers? Young women should be on the lookout for these signs. Any changes in skin, nipple discharge, lumps, or breast size should be promptly investigated for breast cancer. The significance of routine screenings and HPV immunization cannot be overstated, as cervical cancer can manifest as irregular bleeding, pelvic pain, or atypical discharge. Bloating, stomach pain, and changes in bowel habits are some of the symptoms of ovarian cancer.
Not only that, but it's critical that young women understand their bodies and notify medical professionals of any persistent or unusual symptoms. Timely diagnosis and improved treatment outcomes for these cancers are contingent upon regular screenings, self-examinations, and open contact with medical professionals. Proactive health awareness is important because ignoring these indicators could result in delayed care.

Dr. Mandeep Singh Malhotra, who is the Director of Surgical Oncology at CK Birla Hospital in Delhi, exclusively told Jagran English about the three types of cancers affecting young women.
According to Dr. Mandeep, "Cancer is a formidable health challenge, and its impact on young women in India is particularly noteworthy. Among the various types of cancers affecting this demographic, three stand out as the most common: breast cancer, cervical cancer, and ovarian cancer."

Breast Cancer: This is the leading cancer among young women, both globally and in India. Notably, the peak age of breast cancer incidence in India occurs about a decade earlier than in the West. Here, it typically strikes around 45 years old, while in Western countries, it's more common in the late 50s or even 60s.
Cervical Cancer: Although previously the most prevalent cancer among young women, cervical cancer rates have now declined thanks to several factors. Improved hygiene, wider use of sanitary pads, and increased uptake of the HPV vaccine have all contributed to this positive trend. While still a concern, cervical cancer now falls behind breast cancer in terms of incidence.
Ovarian Cancer: This type of cancer poses a significant challenge for young women due to its difficulty in early diagnosis.

In addition, he said, "Also, genetic factors play a role, with the BRCA gene mutation sometimes leading to a hereditary breast and ovarian cancer syndrome."

At last, Dr. Mandeep said, "As young women in India deal with the challenges posed by breast, cervical, and ovarian cancers, a comprehensive approach that combines awareness, preventive measures, and advancements in healthcare is important. By understanding the unique aspects of each cancer type and tailoring interventions accordingly, people can strive to reduce the burden of these diseases and empower young women to lead healthier lives."
