Every year, World Against Child Labour Day is observed across the world to spread awareness about child labour and the laws against it. It is celebrated by the members of United Nations member countries to raise awareness and educate about the need to eliminate and end child labour. According to the United Nations, more than 150 million children around the globe are still working or are forced to work as labourers.
World Against Child Labour Day 2023: History
The history of the World Against Child Labour goes back to the year 2002 when the International Labour Organisation (ILO) launched the day. It was established in 2002 in an effort to address the rising problem of child labour across the world. The International Labour Organization (ILO) designated 12 June as World Day Against Child Labour. Acknowledging the importance of this day, the United Nations announced 2021 as the International Year for the Elimination of Child Labour.
World Against Child Labour Day 2023: Significance
This year will mark the 21st anniversary of World Against Child Labour Day. It is pertinent to note that this day plays a significant role in the development of countries and the future of the world. Children are the future of any country and in order to benefit from them, a proper education chance is integral. According to International Labour Organisation, around two-thirds of all child labour is in the agricultural sector. With such statistics, it is necessary to eliminate child labour and provide proper care, education, and facilities for children to grow and have a better future.
World Against Child Labour Day 2023: Theme
The theme for World Against Child Labour Day 2023 is ‘Social Justice for All. End Child Labour.’ Last year the observations took place around the theme of ‘Universal Social Protection to End Child Labour.’
