World Anesthesia Day 2023: Also known as National Anesthesia Day, this is an annual event observed on October 16 to commemorate the first successful monstration of diethyl ether anaesthesia by William T. G. Morton on 16 October 1846. This day is observed to inform people about the role of anaesthesia in the healthcare community. It is also dedicated to honouring healthcare professionals or anaesthetists who play a huge role in conducting surgeries.
World Anesthesia Day 2023: History & Significance
The history of World Anesthesia Day dates back to the year 1846 and commemorates the first successful demonstration of ether as an anaesthesia by W.T.G. Morton. It was held at Massachusetts General Hospital and marked a major turning point in medical history. World Anesthesia Day has been organised by the World Federation of Societies of Anaesthesiologists (WFSA) since 1903 and continues to spread information about anaesthesia.
