World Environment Day is an annual event celebrated around the globe to spread awareness about the importance of nature and environmental problems. It is a global platform for environmental public outreach and is celebrated by millions of people across the world. It is a renowned day for environmental action. World Environment Day is observed every year on June 05 every year across the globe. It is led by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), and held annually since 1973, it has grown to be the largest global platform for environmental outreach. This year will mark the 50th anniversary of World Environment Day, using the hashtag and slogan #BeatPlasticPollution.
On this special occasion, we have brought you some nature-friendly places in India that you can visit this weekend and be a part of the celebrations of World Environment Day 2023.
1. Valley Of Flowers, Uttarakhand
Valley of Flowers is an Indian national park which was established in 1982. It is known for its meadows of endemic alpine flowers and the variety of flora. It is an exotic destination where nature blooms in full glory offering a breathtaking experience. Beautiful flowers including orchids, poppies, primulas, marigolds, daisies and anemones are an eye-catching spectacle of this destination.
2. Loktak Lake, Manipur
Located in the state of Manipur, Loktak Lake is a freshwater lake with a surface area varying from 250 sq km to 500 sq km during the rainy season with a typical area of 287 sq km. It is the only floating national park in the world and is one of the most popular tourist destinations across the globe.
3. Lonar Lake, Maharashtra
Also known as Lonar Crater, it is a notified National Geo-heritage Monument in Maharashtra. It is an astrobleme created by a meteorite impact during the Pleistocene Epoch. This place has been declared a Wildlife Sanctuary for the conservation and conservation of Lonar Lake.
4. Gurudongmar Lake
This is one of the highest lakes in the world and India, at an elevation of 5,430 m according to the Government of Sikkim. This place is considered sacred by Hindus, Sikhs and Buddhists. This lake is named after Guru Padmasambhava, known as the founder of Tibetan Buddhism, who visited in the 8th century.
5. Snow Valley, Kashmir
Also known as Vale of Kashmir, Snow Valley is an intermontane valley in the northern half of Jammu and Kashmir. From breathtaking views, mighty mountains, walking trails and scenic spots, this place is a must-visit in a lifetime.
