It is an annual celebration that promotes music and its universal language. It is celebrated globally to honour the singers and musicians who make the world a better place to live. Music is not just lyrics and sound combined together to form a song, but a lifeline for millions around the globe.
World Music Day 2023: History
The history of World Music Day dates back to 1982 with its origin in France. The idea for the establishment of a day dedicated to music was put forth by Jack Lang and the French Minister of Culture at the time along with composer Maurice Fleuret and a radio producer who was also known to be a music journalist. On June 21, which witnesses the summer solstice, musicians, and singers come to celebrate the power of music at public places.
World Music Day aims to promote musical diversity and foster a sense of community through the universal language of music. The first World Music Day was celebrated in France, Paris on June 21, 1982. More than 1000 musicians and singers performed on the streets and parks, and the event was a huge success. Since then this event has been celebrated across the world on this day.
World Music Day 2023: Significance
The special occasion of World Music Day aims to transform music as an art form which is more consumable for all generations. It is celebrated to formulate an inclusive space and urge people to explore various genres of music and welcome the art for further generations. Music is an important element of our everyday lives. We all listen to some kind of music while completing our daily chores, be it travelling, completing assignments or just cooking, music is our best friend.
