Neue Klasse EV Architecture

The existing BMW iX1 electric SUV has been developed on the UKL2 platform, shared with the standard X1 featuring various powertrain options. The new-gen BMW iX1 has been codenamed NB5 and is anticipated to be the last model to be introduced among the six electric cars scheduled to be launched by 2028, all based on the new EV architecture. Considering this timeline, the potential launch of the new iX1 EV is expected around 2027 or 2028. Factoring in that the current iX1 will be six years old by then, the introduction of the next-generation model strategically aligns with BMW's roadmap.

Furthermore, BMW has also revealed its plans that by 2026 one-third of its global sales will be contributed by electric vehicles. The German luxury automaker anticipates that 33 per cent of its total vehicle sales will be exclusively electric vehicles, with a strong reliance on the introduction of new electric models to achieve this objective. BMW also aims for EVs to match the profitability of ICE powered vehicles by 2026. Electric vehicles generally demand higher development and production costs compared to traditional internal combustion engine models. However, BMW is striving to achieve profitability in the electric vehicle segment within approximately two years.
