World Environment Day:  Prime Minister Narendra Modi flagged off 200 DEVi electric buses today, on the occasion of World Environment Day. PM Modi has always advocated for sustainable and green initiatives. These buses will cut down 2,50,000 metric tons of carbon emissions annually and a total of 3 million metric tons of emissions during their lifetime.

What Is DEVi?

DEVi buses were introduced in the national capital initially as Mohalla Bus Service by the Aam Aadmi Party, and it stands for Delhi Electric Vehicle Interconnector initiative. These buses enhance last-mile connectivity in Delhi by connecting major metro stations and bus terminals. The buses are specially designed to be more accessible for senior citizens, with features like knee-down flooring and wheelchair ramps.

The DEVi buses are fully indigenous, and they are manufactured by a company named PMI. PMI is a commercial electric vehicle company, with its manufacturing based in the Delhi-NCR region. The commercial EV manufacturer makes 7-meter, 9-meter, and 12-meter electric buses, along with electric school buses. Speaking at the flag-off,

Dr. Aanchal Jain, CEO of PMI Electro Mobility, said: “At PMI Electro Mobility, we are proud and deeply humbled to contribute to India’s green transformation. It is a moment of immense honour for us to have our electric buses launched by the Hon’ble Prime Minister on World Environment Day. Our electric buses are already making a difference across the country, actively reducing emissions and driving us toward a cleaner, more intelligent future. On this Environment Day, let us renew our shared commitment to protecting the planet—laying the groundwork for a future that the next generation will cherish with pride.”
