The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has approved the redevelopment of the 102.193 km Parsarma-Araria section of National Highway (NH) 327E in Bihar at an estimated cost of Rs 1,547.55 crore. The stretch will be upgraded into a two-lane road, Road Construction Minister Nitin Nabin announced on Thursday.

The project, to be executed by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) under the Hybrid Annuity Mode (HAM), will be completed within 24 months of commencement. The selected agency will also be responsible for its maintenance for 15 years.

The redevelopment plan includes construction of four bypasses (Parsarma, Supaul, Pipra and Triveniganj), one road overbridge, two flyovers, six major bridges, 41 minor bridges, one vehicular underpass, one small vehicular underpass, 75 box and slab culverts, and 86 pipe culverts.

Officials said the project will significantly ease traffic congestion in densely populated towns such as Parsarma, Supaul, Pipra and Triveniganj, where heavy vehicles currently cause frequent jams.

The new infrastructure is expected to boost connectivity, enhance transport safety, and spur economic as well as social development in north-eastern Bihar, particularly in the flood-prone Kosi belt.
